SMJ Alumni Retreat

Going away on a retreat can be a transformational experience. However, it’s not always practical for many of us, especially during the busy holiday season. This Advent, join Marisa Lapish and other SMJ Alumni on a walking retreat within the rhythm of your everyday life. Through daily walks in your neighborhood, walk with Mary as she travels from Nazareth to Judea. Each walking meditation highlights themes of the promised Messiah from the Hebrew scriptures, which echo in Mary's song, the Magnificat. SMJ alumni are invited to join a virtual orientation and opening ceremony on Sunday, Nov 1 at 7 PM. We will meet artist Cody Wood and meditate on a visual depiction of "Mary on the Way." (See the ZOOM link tab under Sunday, Nov 30, in the program.) Lace up your shoes and join us on this special Advent adventure! Here are a few tips for making a wonderful virtual retreat: * Consider using the "Wix Spaces" App (see link below) for easy access to the retreat from your phone. Once you log in, click on Flourish Contemplative Center and look for the "Retreats and Programs" tab. * Walk with others: Invite SMJ friends or others to join you for daily or weekly walks. You can also connect with fellow retreat walkers on the SMJ Facebook page to share insights, photos from your walk, and encouragement. You may also use the Wix Spaces app by clicking on the "Group" tab to access a safe, private, and delightful space reserved for SMJ alumni. * Try walking alternatives like using a finger labyrinth, meditative coloring, or gentle stretching like yoga. You may also engage in other prayer techniques, such as centering prayer or imaginative prayer, by imagining yourself walking and talking with Mary as she travels from Nazareth to Judea. Whether you choose movement or stillness, practice an open posture to God and allow the Holy Spirit to guide, reveal, and awaken you to the richness of Mary's song.
